Been following your work since “Good Calories, Bad Calories.” I learned so much from that book.

• The revolving door between the FDA and what we now call “Big Pharma.”

• The bad science underpinning the food pyramid.

• The real reason we get fat, and it’s not from eating a high fat diet.

And so much more.

I am so excited for this new Substack and hope to be able to support it financially.

Ok, it turns out you can set the founders pledge amount at a custom option. Thanks, again.

You are truly a gentleman and a brilliant thinker. You probably don’t even realize how many lives you have touched, or maybe you do. Regardless, we all continue to tell you every moment how incredibly grateful and blessed we are to have you.

Avgnomon to you sir,

It’s Greek for utmost respect and honour with gratitude.

I love your books, some of which have changed our lives so much for the better. This is an exciting time for health and nutrition science especially. Let's start by stopping poisoning ourselves.

A voice of sanity in a world gone crazy in so many ways. This will be a challenging time on many health fronts, and at least we have you to keep us informed on nutrition. Congratulations on your new venture - I so look forward to the newsletters. You are a serious superstar, Gary, and a hero.

Hi Scott,

I'll see what I can do. I appreciate your support (even without the pledge).

Hi Bev,

It's quite likely you did. There's a lot of duplication in this endeavor. No need to check now. Thanks, of course, for the very kind words.

Best,

Thank you for this. You were the first person I encountered who challenged the fat hypothesis of heart disease. I would be interested in your exploring for us the role of vitamin K2. Some bits and pieces I think I know or wonder about follow.

- lower incidence of osteoporosis among Japanese women who still eat certain fermented sides that provide K2

- K2 is a “calcium manager”. Why is it not prescribed instead of meds that create dense but brittle bones

- two friends have excessive blood calcium but their neither of their endocrinologists know of K2 deficiency with respect to parathyroid gland disease. Hadn’t heard of it. How can this be? Instead they consider removing the parathyroid gland to control the blood calcium level. Endocrinology is their specialty.

- a local pharmacist didn’t know about K2 though vit. D is often sold as D3 + K2

Barbara Schlafer...yes!

I, too, am super interested in these topics.

I've proposed my hypothesis to you, Gary, and you cited that vitamin K2 is too much beyond your areas of study - you have so many other things on your plate - but it's really WOW.

e.g. a zero CAC represents a 15 year warranty from death by all causes.

The vitamin K-dependent protein's synthesis, matrix gla protein (MGP), depends on sufficient triiodothyronine (T3), which is the "active" thyroid hormone mostly created by converting T4 sent out from the thyroid in various tissues. Endocrinology has assumed that T3 is created adequately and that serum levels represent tissue levels and there are data showing otherwise. MGP is highly expressed in arterial endothelial cells and, when activated, prevents CAC.

Endocrinology has made many missteps.

Diabetes,CVD, obesity, AD, cancer...all share calcium dysregulation and VK is a player.

It's been overlooked.

My hypothesis: all the common chronic diseases share calcium dysregulation in their etiology.

You’re heck of a great writer. I watch for your work. Found you about decade ago. We were and are focused on health and nutrition and your work had big positive impact on our family. You make a difference while being pleasure to read. Will for sure subscribe. Also listened to you on podcast couple years ago and really enjoyed hearing about your background, scientific writings.
